 CAVMEN - Chicago Area
                      VM (and Linux) Enthusiasts

June 17, 1999 Meeting

Meeting Agenda:

9:00 AM FLEX-ES, The Flexible Enterprise Solution
Fundamental Software, Inc. of Fremont, CA, will be presenting their FLEX-ES product. FLEX-ES is a Plug-Compatible Mainframe computer which implements the IBM ESA architecture in software instead of hardware. FLEX-ES runs on new-technology Intel Pentium processor series server platforms running the UNIX operating system. It provides a full-featured uniprocessor or multiprocessor mainframe CPU, along with a wide range of emulated devices and the capability to attach physical peripherals.

FLEX-ES runs as a UNIX application program, and as such, multiple instances of FLEX-ES may run simultaneously on the same server. Each instance functions as a logically separate mainframe computer, and can run any current and most older releases of the IBM operating systems VM/ESA, VSE/ESA, or OS/390. Mainframe applications can run unmodified on top of these operating systems.

The speaker will be a representative from Fundamental Software, Inc.
10:30 AM Coffee Break
10:45 AM VM WEB Experiences
Come and hear CAVMEN members discuss their experiences in setting up intranet and internet applications under VM. If you are getting ready to start a project like this, or have just finished one and want to share your experiences, or are just curious, be sure to attend. Any members with experience in this area are invited to present.
This presentation will be made by members of CAVMEN.
12:00 PM Lunch Break (Lunch not provided)
1:30 PM Administration and Vendor Announcements
1:45 PM VM Tools
Everyone has one or two favorite VM tools that they use and love. Why not share them with the rest of us? Come and do a brief presentation on your favorite tool (or tools). Let us know what you use it for, where to get it, and how it works. We have one of these tools presentations periodically, and they always feature tools useful to all members. Plan now to attend.
This presentation will be made by members of CAVMEN.
2:45 PM Coffee Break
3:00 PM Free-for-All
Members will attempt to answer any reasonable VM or hardware related questions. If you are having a problem and want to find out if others are experiencing it, or you are installing new hardware or software and want to find out what types of problems others have experienced, here is the place to find out.
Members are encouraged to bring ideas for future presentations and speakers to this meeting.
