January 21, 1999 Meeting

Meeting Agenda:

9:00 AM VM/ESA Platform Update
Come and hear the latest developments on your favorite operating system. Recent VM system announcements and functional enhancements will be highlighted. This is a great session to get your "bear"ings on the new capabilities of VM that will be presented and discussed.
The speaker will be Mr. Alan Altmark of the IBM Corporation.
Alan Altmark joined IBM in 1982 as a member of CMS Development, working on CMS internals, GCS, and the CMS Shared File System. In 1987 he transferred to VM System Test, with an emphasis on native, SNA, and TCP/IP communications. In addition to his activities as a tester, he is also an active designer and developer of TCP/IP functions. Alan has been a frequent presenter at VM Technical Conferences and is the IBM liason to the Metropolitan VM Users Association.
10:30 AM Coffee Break
10:45 AM TCP/IP for VM/ESA Version 2 Release 3
TCP/IP is a critical part of any system's connection to the outside world. VM is no exception. Come and hear IBM talk about the version of TCP/IP that is included with VM/ESA Version 2 Release 3. Significant changes have been made to ordering, installation, configuration, and function. This is a "must see" session for anyone who plans to use TCP/IP with VM/ESA Version 2 Release 3.
The speaker will be Mr. Alan Altmark of the IBM Corporation.
12:00 PM Lunch Break (Lunch not provided)
1:30 PM Administration and Vendor Announcements
1:45 PM VM/ESA Disaster Recovery Roundtable
CAVMEN members will informally present and discuss problems and past experiences in preparing for, testing, and maintaining readiness for the worst case scenario - a data center disaster. The discussion will include the use and configuring of commonly used backup products. If you are getting ready to plan for disaster recovery for the first time, or if you are just curious about how others are dealing with problems you may have experienced in the past, be sure to attend. All members are invited to participate.
2:45 PM Coffee Break
3:00 PM Free-for-All
Members will attempt to answer any reasonable VM or hardware related questions. If you are having a problem and want to find out if others are experiencing it, or you are installing new hardware or software and want to find out what types of problems others have experienced, here is the place to find out.
Members are encouraged to bring ideas for future presentations and speakers to this meeting.
